Teaching Basic Financial Concepts to Young Adults

40% of Americans are financially illiterate.  Even worse, many young adults do not believe they can obtain a better financial future and instead are "doom spending" their income (instead of saving, investing, etc.) to cope with their negative views on the future.

Many young adults do not understand the basic personal finance concepts to become financially secure.   Financially illiterate young adults are more likely to have money challenges that may impact other areas of their lives.

The Chavez Family Foundation is developing a program to make it easier for young adults to understand a basic approach to become financially secure.

The Chavez Family Foundation is in the process of publishing a book titled “Basic Personal Finance Concepts for Young Adults” that it will be offering to high school students.  It covers twelve basic personal finance concepts in simple terms and with concrete examples.

The Foundation is also working to develop a seminar to offer to high school students to dive deeper into the book’s concepts and to work through real-life exercises that ensure the student understands these basic personal finance concepts.   The Foundation plans to offer this seminar to several high schools and other organizations in the Wake County area in 2025-2026.
